Approved For Relea p 2000/09/11 :C DIARY NOTES DD/S 20 April 1965 1. I left word with Admiral Raborn's office that the Office of Logistics is ready to discuss houses with him at his earliest convenience. I alerted to be prepared to respond immediately and requested that Alan Warfield or George accompany to the meeting. 5. telephoned to say that both Mr. McCone and Admiral Raborn had signed Admiral Raborn's consultant contract effective 12 April 1965. I asked Walt to send it to Emmett Echols and alerted Emmett to be on the lookout for it and to ensure that it is properly handled. Mr. Kirkpatrick telephoned to inquire about whether we could keep General Carter on detail to CIA until the Army has a specific assignment for him. I said that, of course, General Carter is DDCI until Dick Helms is sworn in and that, insofar as space, transportation, etc., are concerned, there would be no problem in keeping him here. Of course, his pay will revert to that of a Lieutenant General as soon as Dick is sworn in. However, I told Kirk that I thought this matter should be worked out between General Carter and the Army and that it would be inappropriate for either of us to intercede with the Army without General Carter's full knowledge and approval. 8. Mr. Kirkpatrick buzzed to complain that was not on the guest list for the party in honor of Mr. McCone and General Carter. I told him the history of the guest list and suggested that he take up the matter with General Carter and/or Mr. McCone. 9. talked with me about his personal desires. He thought that he was better suited for a position as Chief of Support than a staff posi- tion in SSA, for example. However, he does not wish to return to the SR Division. I told him that this did not make any sense to me either since he was in SR for five or six years. I promised him nothing but told him that he stood well with his contemporaries in the Support business and that I thought he need not worry about a good assignment when he returns from 10. reported that the fishing rod and reel which Jim Angleton is purchasing for General Carter will cost approximately $130 and that the silver cigarette box for Mr. McCone will cost $197 including taxes and engraving. 11. and I lunched at the City Tavern and made arrangements for the cocktails, dinner menu, after-dinner liqueurs, and cigars. This will cost approximately $16.50 per person. Hence, the bill per paying guest, including the gift, will run closer to $25 than to $20, but I doubt that it will exceed $25.
