SUBJECT: Dulles Papers
1. Mr. Deputy Director of Security, discussed
with me on 3 anuary isposition of the remaining papers of
Mr. Allen Dulles still in custody of the Office of Security. These
papers originally were retained by Mr. Dulles at his residence and
were part of a larger group. The larger group was screened by two
senior Agency officials, most recently by The
unclassified documents were returned to Mrs. Dulles for transfer to
the Princeton University for inclusion in their library.
2. There is a residue of approximately 16 cubic feet of
this Dulles material which is classified or sensitive and which is
being held now by the Office of Security. has
looked at the material superficially and suggeste 'o r. eiss that
we consider it for inclusion in the Agency archives.
3. I briefed Q on the status of the formal Agency
archives program as well as on the existence of the 17,000 cubic feet
archives collection at the Records Center. We agreed that it would
be appropriate that following 30 June 1972 these materials be trans-
ferred from the Office of Security to the archives collection at the
Records Center.
4. ~ further indicated that had
examined the approximately 4 cubic feet of OSS materials which is
part of the 16 cubic feet total and had determined that the OSS
materials in all robability are duplicated in the headquarters OSS
collection. also stated that in his opinion, after a few
years the Dulles materials could be screened and some of them destroyed
as being of little value.
