? Declassified and Approved For Release @ 50-Yr 2014/05/21 : CIA-RDP76B00952R000600090024-2 IN REPLY REFER TO: UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE WASHINGTON 25, D. C. SEP ?)0 Hon. Allen W. Dulles, Director Central Intelligence Agency 2430 E Street, NW Washington 25, D. C. My dear Mr. Dulles: D30-D This will acknowledge with thanks the recent transfer of funds covering construction of a portion of the George Wash- ington Memorial Parkway between Spout Run and Chain Bridge, Virginia. The amourA transferred to the National Park Service totaled $1,394,6201 This first grading project was advertised for bids by the Bureau of Palle Roads on September 13. Plans for the second grading project between Chain Bridge and Virginia Route 123 are about complete and will be ready for advertisement early in October. Similarly, the plans for the superstructures of the bridges in the first unit between Spout Run and Chain Bridge are also near completion and we hope to be able to advertise for bids for this work within a short time. Since the steel supply for built-up girders, which will be required for this type of construction, is quite limited and requires as much as 12 to 14 months for delivery, we are anxious to award these contracts as soon as possible. Contracts for succeeding units will also be following as soon as plans can be completed. It would be advantageous and quite desirable, therefore, for the Central Intelligence Agency to transfer the balance of funds available for this work as soon as possible. According to the breakdown listed in our letter of May 11, 1956, under Estimated Expenditures of Construction Contracts the total amount for construction is $6,9170100 plus $1,082,900 for plans, surveys, and supervision for a total of $8,000,000. The recent transfers included $1,3520400 for construction and $42,220 for plans surysks, and sUpervision to the National Park Service, plus $168,880 to the Bureau of Palle Roads for plans, surveys, and supervision for a total of $1,563,500. This would leave a balance of $5,564,700 for con- struction and $871,800 for plans, surveys, and supervision, or a total of $6,436,500 which remains yet to be transferred.
