8. (Unclassified - PLC) Called Fred owan-&, GSA, concerning the
status of ro os to increase the mileage allowance and per diem for
domestic travel. According to Cowans, a bill is now being prepared for
submission to OMB to raise the mileage allowance ceiling to sixteen cents.
A bill is also being prepared to raise the flat rate for per diem from
twenty-five to thirty dollars and the maximum for unusual expenses from
forty to fifty dollars. In addition, the bill would list specific per diem rates
for ten to twelve cities which have a high cost of living. He indicated the
mileage bill should move easily but there might be problems with the per
diem increases.
