Informed George Gilbert, OMB, that 25X1 the revised letter to Chairman John C. Stennis, Senate Committee on Armed Services, on S. 2597 and S. 3767 would be sent to OMB today. 2. Called Bill Skidmore, OMB, to alert hin25X1 to our letter on Committee Print No. 5 of11.L3 (Federal Privacy Commission). I briefly described our position and the outlook as we see it for this bill. Skidmore thanked me and said he would give our letter prompt attention. 3. In response to a request from the Director, I talked25X1 to Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, about an item omitted from yesterday's briefing. See Memorandum for the Record. 4. Received a call from Ralph Preston, House 25X1 Appropriations Committee staff, who told me that the Chairman's schedule is such that he must postpone Thursday's proposed briefing of the "Mahon Special Group" Subcommittee by the DCI. The Chairman will reschedule the briefing as soon as he has established a possible date. 5. Received a call from Frank Sullivan, Senate 25X1 Armed Services Committee staff, who told me he is assisting Senator Sam Nunn (D. , Ga.) on his trip to the. Western Pacific and would appreciate guidance from our people as to the current issues in the Far East--the more important places to be visited and persons to be seen. This is in response to the Senator's request for a briefing in anticipation of travel to the Soviet Union later this fall. 25X1 OCI, Congressional Support Officer, and John Whitman, Nb, have been advised. 25X1 8. Talked to Chairman Lucien N. Nedzi (D., Mich. ), Intelligence uocommittee, House Armed Services Committee, and confirmed with him his attendance at the EA Stations Chief's luncheon on October 7th. Nedzi was unable to commit himself to speak to the group since he will have two bills pending on the floor at that time. He will, however, make every effort to at least join the group for lunch. Ted Shackley, C/EA, has been advised. 9. Received a call from Richard S. Kimmel, Document Specialist, Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, who told me he has recovered several documents from Senator Stuart Symington (D. , Mo.) for return to the Agency. I told him I would pick them up during the day tomorrow. 10. Talked to Bill Hogan, Counsel, Intelligence Subcommittee, House Armed Services Committee, who told me the hearing on H.R. 15845 scheduled for Thursday has been put over. He noted that Justice Department has answered the Committee's questions in part as to the statutory provisions, but has not provided any comments as yet. He told me he has talked to Mr. Hays at Justice who told Hogan that the Department is working with the Agency and will submit their comments when completed. 11. ) Talked to Art Kuhl, Chief Clerk, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who told me he did not expect any immediate Committee actions from this morning's session on the Levinson report. He also told me the Committee has set aside the Levinson report and referred the matter to the full Committee staff for a report and findings to the full Committee. Upon the report of the findings of the full Committee staff, the Committee will then determine the course of action to be followed in this matter.
