Approved For Release 2002/01/02 : CIA-RDP76M00527R000700140043-2 ADDENDUM TO JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL CIA INTERNAL USE ONLY Friday - 6 September 1974 1. (Internal Use Only - SWH) Called Gary Sellers, Senate Appropriations Committee staff, to request clarification of a number of items on the Committee's 11 June 1974 listing of materials supplied by the Committee to the Special Prosecutor. Sellers indicated he would check on these items and get back to us. Later I took to Sellers a draft letter from the Committee to Frank H. Strickler, Esq. , attorney for Haldeman, which was drafted by General Counsel and was to be in response to the subpoena on the Committee. I reiterated that the Agency's preference was for Strickler to review the subpoenaed material at the Agency but that if Strickler was opposed to this we would be willing to take the material in a sanitized form to Strickler's office for his review. Sellers was inclined, however, for what he felt to be a necessary accommodation to offer to Strickler a review of the documents at Strickler's office. 2. (Internal Use Only - SWH) Called Jim Davidson, Senate Government Operations Committee staff, to inform him of our progress on preparing a letter for the Committee on the latest draft o.f S_ 347 (Committee Print No. 5). Davidson said he did not expect any floor action until late next week at the earliest. I discussed with him our suggested exemption which will specifically exempt the Agency from certain sections of the bill and also provided that no other section of the bill shall be construed so as to impair or affect the Director's statutory authority. Davidson liked this approach. Also, I did not indicate to him what and how many sections we would be requesting exemptions from. Davidson requested that we include in out letter an explanation why the CIA required unique considerations regarding this bill. Our letter includes sucj, language.
