Answer to Mr. McCloskey's first question:
Practically all of our documents classified in 1973 were
exempted from the General Declassification Schedule.
Answer to Mr. McCloskey's second question:
Of the exempted documents under the Executive Order, none
have been reviewed to determine whether they can be declassified.
These documents are new--the oldest dating back only to
June 1972--and the original classification and exemption
decisions therefore are so recent that declassification review
would not yet be useful.
Answer to Mr. McCloskey's third question:
Less than one percent of the exempted documents have been
stamped for declassification on a given date or event.
Answer to Mr. McCloskey's fourth question:
As all of the original classification and exemption decisions
under the Executive Order are new and have not been reviewed,
we have no experience on which to base an estimate. However,
it seems certain that a review of just one year's exempted
documents would require tens of thousands of manhours.

Status report on the declassification of CIA documents on the Bay of Pigs
incident:
The request by the New York Times for the documents having to
do with the Bay of Pigs incident was favorably acted upon by the
CIA Information Review Committee, which directed that the material
be reviewed for possible declassification under Executive Order 11652.
Although these materials are voluminous and are dispersed in the
custody of several different Agency offices, it has been directed that
