(Unclassified RJK) Eric Foremen, on the staff of Senator D-ile Bumpers (D. , Ark. ), called saying; that the Senator vas traveling to Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and the Middle East and asked if we 25X1A could get some maps for him. Later in the day delivered page--sized copies of maps of the countries above, plus the Middle East atlas, to the Senator's office. 2. (Internal Use Only - RJK) Called Noel Daoust, on the staff of -~ixt1 and informed her that:. we the House Tr~f.~r~atinn-= i-oat had received three (3) copies of a transcript of the Director's testirijony before the Oversight Subcommittee yesterday. She checked %,ith..Ma.nian. Czarnecki, Chief of Staff, and requested that the Agency hold them until they were needed by the Committee. 3. (Internal Use Only - RJK) Spoke with Tom Smeeton, Minority- Staff, House Relations committee, in. connection with a meeting yesterday with Representative Larry Winn (R. , Kansas). I told Smeeton that in response to the Congressman's questions, the .lL2a-yagu I.. was carrying no intelligence or surveillance equipment other than standard radio gear. I added that the ship had no intelligence :rriis sion or function. I said that some of the specific questions raised during our meeting might be resolved by the GAO investigation which is in progress. Smeeton said he understood that this would probably be the case, but appreciated our quick reaction to the fundamental question of whether the Mayaguez was on an intelligence mission. He said he would pass the word back to Representative Winn. Smeeton said on another matter, that Representative William S. Broomfield (R. , Mich. ) wished to express his thanks to the Director for the letter which Mr. Colby had forwarded to the Hill yesterday on the '.Turkey situation. CIA INTH ~ AL.
