Colby Director Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D, C. Dear Mr. Colby: As you know, the President has recently submitted supplemental aid requests for Vietnam and Cambodia. We are presently assembling information on the current situation in these two countries so as to enable ourselves to make informed judgments regarding the requests xeceived from the Executive Branch. In this connection I would like to request, at the suggestion of Senator Case but on behalf of the entire Cor~mlittee, that the Central Intelligence Agency provide the Committee with its most recent National Intelligence Estimates on Vietnam and Cambodia. We under- stand that a new NIE entitled, "Short Term Prospects for Vietnam" was completed sometime late last year. We would like to have a copy of that study, together with the corresponding study on Cambodia, to be held in the Corrnnittee offices in the Capitol for the examination of our Members and two key staff officers. Your early response and attention to this request will be appreciated. Sincerely, John Spar Approved For Release 2004/06/24: CIA-RDP77M00144R000300040019-8 ACTION INFO DATE INITIAL 1 DCI 2 DDCI X 3 S/MC 4 DDS&T 5 DDI 6 DDA 7 DDO 8 D/DCI/IC X 9 D%DCI/NI 10 GC 11 LC X 12 IG 13 Compt 14 D/Pers 15 D/S 16 DTR 17 Asst/DCI 18 AO/DCI 19 20` ,, 21 22 To 1: This is a substantially different request than described by Georg Carvex at this morning's meeting.
