Called Barbara Goldman, Caseworker, in the office of Representative Barbara Jordan (D., Tex. ), and advised STATOTHR her that we were sure (see Journal item #5, 18 February) had not been in contact with our Houston office and that that office would STATOTHR be in touch with today. I told her we would be in touch with her as soon as we have the results. Goldman was most appreciative of the attention given this case. 25X1 2. Jim Kronfeld, House Government Operations Subcommittee on Government Information and Privacy staff, called and raised an objection to the Agency's regulation published in the Federal 25X1 Register implementing the Freedom of Information Act amendments. (See Memorandum for the Record.) 25X1A A 25X1 STATOTHR 25X1 Arranged a personnel interview for who was referred by Representative Charles A. Called Eric Forman, a Commerce Department detailee in the office of Representative Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D., Mich.), and confirmed in response to his request of yesterday that this Agency could provide a briefer on the OPEC countries. Representative Riegle is a member of a task force on energy problems appointed by Speake j Albert. I told him Congressional Support Officer, OCI, would be in contact with him to set a date for the briefing tentatively scheduled for 1000 hours, Monday,. 24 February. Forman requested that Carl Blake, the Congressman's Administrative Assistant be present also and said that both he and Blake had Top Secret clearances which I confirmed wit] the Office of Security. I stressed to Forman the guidelines for our briefing. background use only, no attribution to the Agency and Forman agreed to t 35(1 conditions. 15. Richard Moose, Committee staff, called and cancelled the scheduled briefing of Senators Baden and Clark. 16. Accompanied the Director, Dick Lehman, and to a world wrapup briefing of the full Senate Armed Services Committee. See Memo for the Record. 17. Attended the lunch for staff members of the President's Commission and chatted at some length with Mason Cargill and Peter Clopper. 18. Talked to Carl Duckett, DDS&T, who advised he is going over to Defense to meet with Secretary Schlesinger and Mr. Sourwine concerning the Director's testimony before the Jackson Subcommittee on Arms Control of Senate Armed Services Committee. I told Duckett we had received several calls about the transcript of that briefing and that the transcript was with the Committee. We do not have a copy but copies of the prepared statement were sent to DOD. 19. Sandy, in the office of Representative Thomas Ashley, called and requested 18 copies of the CIA pamphlet for use in a library. I Fs sending these out. Dick Moose, Committee staff, called and said his briefing on Saturday by NIO/SEA, was "splendid, terrific, extremely useful. " He said he talked with Senator Clark yesterday and Clark and Senator Biden would like to have the same briefing. Moose asked if -ould come up and let the Senators 25X1A look at the NIEs on Vietnam and Cambodia and talk with them on this subject. I told him I would check and let him know. After checking with the Director and I left word for Moose that would be available 25X1A tomorrow at 0 p. ni. Moose is to confi 1e know. 12. Susan McMahon, -f ' 1 nr i n Flr-datin-n- Committee staff, called and requested the transcript of the 31 May 1960 briefing by Mr. Dulles on the U-2 incident. After checking our records, I advised her that we returned the original of that transcript to the Committee in June 1960. She said she would have her records people check further there. 13. Mr. Thuermer's office advised they had received a call from 'Representative F. J. Fithian's office requesting information on CIA. I said we would send an Agency brochure to Fithian's office, attention Greg Hamilton. IC Staff, advised he had a call 25X1A from Ralph P Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, who is very anxious to get 100 copies of the Director's unclassified statement to be used on 20 February. Preston also asked for the budget paper and said he would give us a copy of the questions he expects the Chairman to ask and a copy of Chairman's opening statement. I will deliver the 100 copies of the 25X1A Director's statement and the budget paper this evening to Charles Snodgrass, of the Committee staff. I said that Snodgrass will be coming to Headquarters on Saturday, 22 February, for a briefing on the intelligence community budget from 9:00 a. m.. until 1:00 p. m. I said I would like to attend that session. 15. Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel, Senate Armed Services Committee, called and said Chairman Stennis wants to read what we had on the 1973 combined Armed Services /Appropriations briefing on Chile. I told him I thought I had taken a lot of notes and he said he would like to see them. Regarding clarances of Bob Old and Jim Smith, of the Committee staff, Braswell said to let him know what clearances they have at the present and not to put in for more clearances for Old until he (Braswell) tells us.
