1? Received a call from Dan Spiegel of
Senator Hubert ump. rey s (D., Minn.) staff, who asked a number of
questions about MARV testing. He said one of the central points that
concerns him was the Soviet: capability to evaluate the American system.
According to him, representatives of the General Electric Company
have indicated that the Soviets have a capability to identify evader
MARVs. He went on to say that his principal concern is that Senator
Thomas J. McIntyre (D. , N. H.) be informed on this subject before the
Defense Procurement Bill goes to conference. I told Spiegel I would
look into this and get back in touch with him.
2? Called Marian A. Czarnecki, on the
staff of the House international Relations Committee and finalized
arrangements for the Director's briefing of the Oversight Subcommittee
tomorrow afternoon at 4: 00 o'clock on covert action program.
3, ttended a meeting in the White House
of the Legi r epar mental Group on Dieero Garcia. _
4. I called Guy McConnell, Senate
Appropriations Committee staff, and discussed the subjects that would
be covered at today's briefing. I also mentioned that we had a Reserve
release letter which I would bring to him today, I and I later
dropped the letter off and briefed McConnell on the release. )
Later in the morning, McConnell called and said the Chairman
would have to cancel the Director's briefing of the Intelligence Operations
Subcommittee this afternoon. McConnell said he would be back in touch.
for a new date.
5. I ICalled Dorothy Fosdick, Permanent
Investigations Subcommittee staff, and gave her a fill-in on Brezhnev
per her request yesterday. I said he had recently been seen at a soccer
game in Moscow, so he was not out of circulation at the moment.
