6. Received a call from Chuck Snodgrass, House
Appropriations om.mittee staff, who asked that we be sure the Director i s
prepared tomorrow when he continues his briefing of the Defense Subconlrxsitteet
to talk in some detail about Agency security systems in general. He said the
Director should also talk about the different kinds of classifications, the three,
or four basic systems, and why we have compartmented systems, their
sensitivities and some examples. He also wants a brief discussion of the
different laws that apply to security. Ile also asked that we bring some
copies of the secrecy oaths Agency employees sign, and explain them. He
said the Director could use charts or give a presentation off the top of his head.
--just so it is clear enough for everyone to understand. He also asked that I
bring the transcript from Thursday's briefing.
I talked with the Director, Jack Blake, and Charles Kane about
Snodgrass' request. It was agreed Mr. Kane would pull a paper together
giving some of the basics of the security system.

7. Called Guy McConnell, Senate Appropriations
Committee staff, and alerted him to the fact that we might have to cancel the
Director's appearance before the Intelligence Operations Subcommittee cm
Wednesday due to a White House meeting. McConnell called later and said
Jim Calloway said to just cancel the meeting and they will. reschedule at
another time.
