Dickerson, Staff Director of the Joint Committee on Printing, to explore with him the subject of the Federal Depository Library Program. I explained to him that it would cost the Agency about $1. 8 million per year to comply with this Program and we just wanted to be sure that the expenditure of that sum of money was absolutely necessary. He stated that we should hold off doing anything about the Program for the time being and requested that I discuss the matter with him personally during the week of 1 December. 6. (Unclassified - WPB) LIAISON Took a call fro)-n Richard Grimmett, Congressional Research Service, Library of Con ~Yjass, who asked if the Agency could provide him unclassified material on Soviet intelligence activities for a report he is doing. He said. that if no unclassified material was available he would then be interested in any classified material we could provide. 7. (Internal Use Only - SDK) CONSTITUENT Took a call from Larry Woldt, Staff Assistant to Representative George O'Brien (R. , Ill. who voiced a complaint over treatment a constituent had received at a personnel interview here in Washington. Afte checked with. the office of Personnel, turned the matter over to ?TAT 8. (Unclassified - RC) LIAISON Accompanied I OSR to STAT brief Richard N. Perle, staff member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Senate Government Operations Committee. The Subject was the balance of forces in the Middle East. Also present was Stephen Bryen, executive assistant for foreign affairs, to Senator Clifford P. Case (R. , N. J'. ). Bryen said he had a Top Secret clearance so we let him stay for the briefing. IAISON I called John Trello, on the staff of Representative Butler Derrick (D. , S. Car. ), and told him that we had no information which would confirm or deny constituent I request for information relative to KG13 infiltration of the Capitol. I told him that this was a matter within the jurisdiction of the FBI and that it was my understanding that the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence had recently put this question to the FBI. I added that perhaps Representative Derrick. would like to contact the FBI for further information. Trello asked me to put this in writing, which has been clone. 7. I ILIAISON I took a call from Dr. Richard Grimmett, of the T ibrar~ ~ho stated that he was preparing some biographic information on former Directors of the Agency and wanted to know if we could forward to him biographic information including current occupation and current address on all Directors from Souers to Raborn. After checking with the Office of Personnel, I called Grimmett back and told him that due to the implications of the Privacy Act: we would need the request in writing and that before we could release the information we would have to have the permission of the former Directors. He thanked me for my efforts and stated that he would not make such a request at this time. 8.1 LIAISON I called Dick White, Administrative Assistant to Representative Dale Milford (D. , Texas), and passed him a message for Representative Milford from Carl Duckett, DD /S?_T, to the effect that the items Milford was interested in could be seen here in the Washington, D. C. area and that a meeting could probably be. arranged here in Washington with the person Representative Milford was interested in talking to about the items. White said he would pass the inessage to the Representative and get back to me. 9. I I LEGISLATION Called Jane McMullan, Senate Appropriations Committee staff, for the language of Senator James Abourezk's (D. , S. Dak. ) amendment, which would bar covert: action, to the Defense Appropriations Bill, which she provided zimie. (Unclassified - THW) LIAISON I dropped by the office of Dick White, Administrative Assistant to Representative Dale Milford (D. , Texas), and chatted with him about the breakfast meeting of Milford and Director Colby and others. We also discussed general details of a follow-up meeting. 11. (Unclassified - THW) LIAISON Picked up from Jim. Michie, Investigator for the Senate Subcommittee on Administrative Practice and Procedure, Committee on the Judiciary, a package of material which had asked me to pick up. 12. (Unclassified - WPB) LIAISON Received a call from Jim Shields, Legislative Assistant to Representative James Santini (D., Nev. ), who requested material on East German budget. OCI, 13. (Unclassified - DFM) HEARINGS Called Paul Hoff, on the Senate Government Operations Committee staff, to let him know that the House Intelligence Committee's congressional oversight hearings had been indefinitely postponed, and to get the names of all the staffers who participated in our I2 November meeting. 14. (Unclassified - JMD) LIAISON Called Karin Lissakers, Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations staff, and advised her we did. not have the 3 January 1973 issue of Canard Enchaine. I suggested she try the Library of Congress and. she said. she had already done this without success. 15. (Unclassified -- JMD) LIAISON Called Carolyn Groves, in the office of Representative George O'Brien (R. , I11.. ), and advised her that General Walters would be happy to tape a radio show with Representative O'13rieuu and also Representative Clair Burgener (R. , Gal-if. ). A time was set for Monday, 17 November at 1:00 in the House Recording Studio, 13 31.0 Rayburn I-louse Office Building. 16. (Unclassified - GLC) LIAISON Mr. Thuermer suggested that would be the best pc.-son to speak to the Rotary Club of Bridgeton, New Jersey, who requested a speaker from, the CIA. to talk to them about the Agency.
