ADDENDUM TO JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Tuesday - 4 May 1976
(Internal Use Only - GLC) ADMINISTRATIVE Called
Mike Duval, White Mouse staff, and advised him of our letter to
Senator Frank Church (D., Idaho) regarding the destruction of
documents. I said we wanted to be sure that there was no
problem from the Administration's point of view regarding a
date of destruction. Duval said he didn't think anyone in the
White House has focused on it. He suggested we touch base with the
other agencies: Department of Justice, Department of Defense
and Department of State, and if there is no opposition, send a note
to Jack Marsh, Counsellor to the President, so he is aware of it.
On the subject of oversight legislation, I told Duval that
we feel the Cannon proposal to S. Res. 400 is the best of the
alternatives to date even though it does not provide for
exclusive jurisdiction. I said Senator John Stennis (D., Miss.)
wants to retain jurisdiction, but I didn't think there was much
chance of this happening. I said I had suggested to the Director
that he bring this up at the CFI meeting today to see if everyone
is on the same wave length. Duval said he would do a note STATINTL
for Jack Marsh and see if they can set up an ICG meeting on it.
