28. (Internal Use Only - PLC) Received a call from. Stephen
Daniels, Minority Staff Counsel, House Government Operations
Committee, who read to me his draft memorandum relating for the
minority members of the Subcommittee,) a brief rundown on the
Director's hearing. I told him I thought it was substantially correct.
Daniels added that he felt the Director had made an excellent presentation
and he expressed his regrets that the Chairwoman had. failed to develop
the basic issues before the Subcommittee. Daniels offered to be of
assistance in the preparation of any proposed substitute for the Agency's
-resent exemption to the Privacy Act. It was Daniels' opinion that the
Chairwoman will probably get her proposal through the Subcommittee
but would have problems with the full Committee.
29. (Internal Use Only - FMC) Called back John E. Melton,
Administrative Assistant to Representative Robert C. McEwen (R. , N. Y. ),
and told him the constituent he had called about, was
interviewed on 2 May 1974 in our Rosslyn, Virginia office and took the
Agency's professional tests on 11 May 1974 and at the time given application
forms which were never returned to the Agency for processing. I also
mentioned to Mr. Melton that was also interviewed on
21 August 1973 and was given application forms at that time, which were
never returned, Mr. Melton said he would check with the constituent to
make sure he was really interested in employment with our Agency and
call us back if he was.
30. (Internal Use Only - PLC) Returned the original correspondence
25X1A on a constituent, to Mary Johannes, on the staff of Senator
Adlai E. Stevenson III (D. , Ill. ). The constituent referred to earlier
correspondence with the Senator (which we never received), and I
explained to Ms. Johannes that the matter did not appear to concern. the
25X1A Agency. Ms. Johannes agreed and said we should consider the matter
