McFadden said the Senator was leaving at 1:00 p. m. this afternoon, that the material we had given him (McFadden) which in turn had been made available to the Senator, plus the briefings he had received from DIA, McFadden thought would give the Senator all he needed. 16. Met with Representative Clarence Brown (R., Ohio) and we discussed his interest in pursuing the question of Capitol Hill as a target for foreign intelligez?ce services. He agreed with me that this was outside our domain and he will contact Director Clarence Kelley, FBI, on this matter. 17. 1 1 Called Dorothy Mayo, Civil Service Commission, to inquire about the Commission's position on the numerous ills introduced to require Federal employees to file financial statements with the Comptroller General. Jane Mathias, in the office of Senator Wendell H. For (D. , Ky. , ca led and asked if h^r. Colby testified last year on Diego Garcia. I said he did and that Senator Stuart Symington (D. , Mo. ) had placed the testimony in the Congressional Rec:Drd. I told her I would call her back with the date and page numbers. 25X1 25X1 it Talked with Jack F~,)os, House Select Committee staff, and advised him I had talked with Chairman Lucien Nedzi last night concerning Boos' request for a low-key briefing on the organization of the Agency. I told Boos we would give them a "B-ookings type" briefing and we scheduled a meeting on the Hill for 3:00 p. m. on Monday, 7 July. 12. 1 Marian Czarnecki, House International Relations Committee staff, called to alert us to the f ct that. the Committee may possibly call the Director on a moment's notice to come up on Tuesday, Czarnecki said this was very tentative but they 25X1 8 July, F are thinking of having Dr. Kissinger up in the morni,ig and might want the Director in the afternoon. He will be back in touch %,-;ith us. 25X1 has been alerted. 25X1 25X1 25X1 13.1 (Jack Blake, DDA, called to alert me to the fact that State Department apparently is responding tO an inquiry from Representative Jack Brooks about the destruction or abandonment of money in Saigon prior to the U.S. withdrawal. According to F,lake's information, State's original intention was to take the total figure of funds destroyed or abandoned and prorate that figure among the various U.S. departments and-agencies. Our Finance people objected to this especially since no Agency money was lost. Blake thought we might want to make our position clear to Brooks. I called Sam Goldberg, Deputy Assistant Secretary of -state for' Congressional Relations, and asked him about this inquiry and State's` proposed reply. Goldberg said he had heard about the incoming inquiry and said the reply would come through his office. I told him I would be interested in knowing how State proposes to answer this question and indicated to Goldberg that. no Agency funds were ei.th.er destroyed or abandoned. Goldber_,; promised to call me back on this. 25X1
