SUBJECT: Communist Party Training Schools
and Related Activities in Latin America
1, The Communist strategy of achieving a "peaceful transition"
to Socialism has required increased emphasis on the organizational
and ideological training of party members. A major purpose of
this training is to p~~vide Communists operating within the "enemy
camp" {i. e. , in mass movements, institutions, and organizations
dominated by non-Communists) with the arguments and the faith
necessary to undermine bourgeois and imperialist ideas and to
establish Marxist points of view. In Latin America, where the
Communists represent a very small minority, there has been
particular emphasis on this strategy and the training associated
with. it.
r The attached brief, prepared by the
25X1A8a f this Staff in response to a request from ~~,~,~
e~-A''~xn.,~-~ consolidates information concerning training activities
undertaken by Communist parties in Latin America. Information
concerning the organization of formal ~"schools"~ and '-training
