R?p Prior to 1935 production of ,q in Yugoslavia was of little significance. By 1930 Yugoslavia was a large producer and since t e acquisition through the Troaty of Paris in 1945 -of the ric, istrian minis , uxst southeast of Trieste, Yugoslavia is potentially 030 of the more important producers of bauxite in Europo. Current production of bauxite in Yugoslavia is estimated at 200,000 metric tons annually. This figure, hovtever, is considerably below capacity. The pro mw peak production was reached in 1938 when 400,000 metric tons wore produced, iusivo of the production of the Istrian mines (400,000 metric tons "1942 under Italian operation). 2. Reserves of. bMLr_Jtp in Yugoslavia (including the Is~,rian mime) are large, are of good quality for processing in European plants, but are not suitable for treatment in the T plants. Prior to World War II reserves were variously estimated at from 25 to 75 million Metric tons, Mw= reserves are estimated to be 20 to 25 million tons. 3.txoi ocassi F 33 All ougb Yugoslavia's capacity for production of bauxite is comparatively large, its capacity for production of t ---- is extremely limited, During the war there was only one probe: sing plant for the pro- duction of aluminum in the country and this plantts capacity was limited to not over 5000 mete c tons of al umintm
