Philippine bid for Pacific union--The Department of State has been informed that Philippine UN representa- tive Romulo has issued an invitation to eight Pacific and Southeast Asian countries to meet during March 1950 "to ascertain whether agreement could be reached" on a non-Communist regional association limited to political, cultural, and economic affairs. According to Romulo, Burma, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Thailand have already indicated their willingness to attend the meeting; Australia, New Zealand, Ceylon, and India were also invited.
