Approved FQr Release 2002/1 1TA!RDP78-02820AO00300010030-4 w MEMORANDUM TO THE FILE SUBJECT: Trip to NSA - 9 August 1957 25X1A9A On 9 August 1957 a trip was made to NSA with personnel from the Operations and Training Division and Security Division to observe the operation of the T/SEC/4iL-1 This unit is used in conjunction with the AFSAM-7 so that a standard 11/16" perforated tape can be used to obtain an encoded or decoded AFSAM-7 tape. This unit should speed up decoding operations since the operator would not have to retype the incoming. traffic. Security is going to obtain one unit on a loan basis so that Operations' personnel can evaluate the unit. The unit will be installed in the 1'L" Building Signal Center from 30 to 60 days. A complete maintenance manual will be supplied with the unit so that the Wire Maintenance Section can correct any troubles that occur. The date of delivery is not known but it it expected that'it will be delivered during the week of 26 August 1957. There have not been any radiation checks made on the unit by NSA. They expect to make these tests at some near date and we will be given a report on the radiation when it is available. This report will be used by Security to determine if the unit can be used in any areas: other than a large Signal Center, that is, if Operations feels that the unit will be of value. 0 riuAg=tu ~awwro~ 25X1A9A 25X1 25X1A9A A ~Jt AM 57) Ap /a : CIA- 8-02820A000300010030-4
