Project E-5500, Design of Signal Center Facility for New
25X1A6a Station, came to life for a brief period this month with
a request from the Real Estate and Construction Division/LO for the
project engineer to examine drawings of the space allocated to the
Office of Communications in Building 35, which will house the Agency
activity in lieu of Building 26. No changes are necessary in the
layout in Building 35 as it is identical to the layout we submitted
for Building 26 with the exception that we have gained additional
office space. The plans were also examined by of the
Signal Center Staff.
2. A contract has been negotiated with involving
$121,850.64 for the procurement of Teletype equipment.

3. NSA was visited twice during the last month, during which time
discussions were held between members of the manufacturing section of
that a e and Mr.
of W-15. Basically we discussed the possibility of
transferring small type manufacturing jobs to that agency for fabrication.
We specifically discussed the possibility of NSA fabricating portable
Recording Studios, Electronic Motor Stops, and Dial Door Locks. During
a subsequent meeting, NSA informed us that it would be impractical for
them to manufacture the Portable Recording Studio. However, they would
give us price and delivery on the Electronic Motor Stop and the Dial
Door Lock. NSA supplied us'with a model of their type door lock and we
subsequently got an approval from Security to substitute for our present
model. Arrangements are being made to order 26 of these units from NSA.
No decision, however, had been decided on the Motor Stops. However, since
NSA's prices are so low (direct labor and parts- no over-head) we expect
to get most of our units that are manufactured from them at approximately
half price.

4. We are in the process of preparing a requisition for t _ 25X1A5a1
facture of 6 Portable Recording Studios with the
Company. We expect delivery in approximately 2 mon s om the date of
order placing.

6. A Bill of Materials for Project - has been compiled and 25X1A2d1
forwarded to Materiel Support Branch. This list, which included 189
line items, was prepared in a period of seven days and turned over to
MSB on 23 September.
Since that date, the requisition has been made up and hand carried
all the way through. As of this time, all items, except local puri$ases,
have been checked out, packed and turned over to Transportation.
Close liaison with the Technician who will install the equipment
was maintained while compiling the Bill of Materials and he is very
familiar with the requirements of the Project.
7. Project E-5020, Modification Work Orders: No Modification Work
Orders were issued during this reporting period.
8. Project E-5085, Communications Systems Planning for New Head-
quarters Building: No work was required on this project during this
reporting period.
