The purpose of the meeting was to determine T38 requixwm9snts for two-way mobile type VHF equipment. explained, to the parties present, that the Office of Com- cunications wishes to standardize on certain types of VHF equipment to better facilitate support to R88 and 0/C operations. A discussion of the type operations performed in field use of VHF mobile equipment, by the Foreign Division, disclosed that it is difficult to ascertain, in advance, what exact type of equipment would best meet an operational ra- quirement. it was agreed, however, that in order to best meet a requirement the equipment should be as flexible as possible. TSS operational needs for two-way VHF communications equipment can be categorized as follows: 25X1A9a 25X1A9a 25X1A6a 25X1A9a a. Vehicular mounted VHF unit, Frequency modulated, in the range of 144 to 179 Mcs. Approximate 25 watt power output. Dash and trunk type mounts, quick disconnect. b. Base station unit compatible to the above to operate on 117 VAC 50/60 CPS current with the same approximate output. c. A walk unit, low power, suitable for concealment 25X1 C compatible to the above units. indicated that the General ELectric series 33 mobile units 25X1A9a would aptly fit ssary when using this unitfon above, However,, a special 50 CPS current otherwise power supply is necessary .,,r untetl Init. W. 25X1 C Office of Coeunications. The problem of obtaining specified drystals for operation in the subject equipment was brought up. It was agreed that it would be impossible to predict the crystal frequency needed for a future operation and the necessity of obtaining proper crystals from manufacturers imposed a certain amount of delay. The possibility of providing crystals for the equipment through O/C crystal 25X1A9a grinding facilities was discussed and indicated that this could be worked out. Approved For Release 2001/07/ 78-0282OA000300020009-7 next discussed certain modifications that are made to the 25X1A9a subjec equiMeaent before operational use. Such things as 25X1 C fabrication for the insertion of a 'walk-unit' and cabling changes etc. to mobile equipment were mentioned. felt that as o/c would provide 25X1A9a equipments rt O/C coul- e necessary modifications to the equipment. felt that any decision to be made on 25X1 A9a this subject could not be made by the. - indicated that or modifications made to the equipment after issue by O/C was their rogaeonrQ5X1 A9a as they would accept full accountability.
