APPROVAL DATE APPROVED BY STARTING DATE COMPLETION DATE FEB 1959 HWK FGI APRIL 7, 1961 JUNE 1961 REMARKS 25X1A During this reporting period the following occurred: of Agency proposed systems. Banks of rack-mounted playback units are ready with pre-recorded messages. A single desk-type recorder is used to make the message tapes. The recorder, although not fully explained by the Pentagon's operating personnel, is compact and could probably be converted for use as a playback unit. Conversely, the playbacks. could probably be converted to act as recorders. 25X1A5a1 b. Discussions with repre- sentatives brought forth a modified Spotmaster Model 500 Recorder-Repro- ducer (25 i.p.s.) and a modified Model 505 Playback Unit (1.6 i.p.s.). These units were tested with the two-channel system being developed at the R+D Lab. Their operation being satisfactory and with definite advantages over the BT-7 Recorder, eight each recorder units and eight each playback units were placed on requisition. 9 ORM Al ved For Release 2001/0%/02: CIA-RDP 2OA000700060066-6 (20.42) O-58 I Approved For Release 21/08/02 : CIA-RDP78-0282OA00070OW66-6 as RO.JEG Num8ER E -5132 CONTINUED MONTHLY PROJECT REPORT CPRIM. RSPN SDS REPORTING PERIOD 1-31 August 1961 c. A Model of the standard Gates Cartritape Recorder- Reproducer and a Gates recording amplifier were received for in- spection and evaluation. Both units are adaptable for 19 inch rack mounting, an advantage over the Spotmaster equipment. Two Gates Cartritape Recorder-Reproducer Units modified for Agency require- ments (one to operate at 25 i.p.s., the other at 1.6 i.p.s.) have been ordered for test and evaluation. d. The two-channel control panel recently fabricated by the R+D Lab has been designated the CF-6- e. The decision was made to move two-channel system completed at R+D Lab to the OC-E Conference Room, Alcott Hall, for demonstration, familiarzation, and further testing. f. At a meeting held in the "I" Building Commo Conference Room between OC-T and OC-E representatives at which Chief, - was .briefed on the AS-3 Base Station System (among other topics), operating procedures affecting functions of the AS-3 System were discussed. This was very useful in that it helped clarify what control functions would be needed in the finished system. g. Improvements in the CP-6 Control Panel that would in- crease its flexibility are now being considered. h. In the two-channel systems SP-600-JX Receivers will be used. All equipment-receivers, control units, converter, control panel, and recorders will be mounted in one rack. The alarm bell will be mounted on top of the cabinet. pprov -028 000700060066-6
