Project Status: 25X1A9a Mr. participation in this trip was primarily to evaluate the checkout procedures to be used with the RR-49. He discussed the procedure and equipment with the -Quality Control.6man and they 25X1A5a1 seem to be in agreement on all major points. The only bone of contention _ involved the old argument as to whether the receiver should be checked for sensitivity using hard or soft microvolts. The' engineers 25X1A5a1 are on our side and the test procedure will utilize the hard microvolt approach. The first production unit RR-49 has been assembled with the exception, of the dial tape and is presently being checked out. This unit was not operating during our visit because of a defective BFO coil. The dial tape was not installed because these tapes have not been received from the vendor. The vendor has said he will deliver, the tapes on or before 24 December. A dial tape which has been hand calibrated is being used during the testing process. We talked with Mr. Provisioning man, about 25X1A5a1 spare parts and maintenance of these receivers. He didn't have information as promised a month ago, but indicated that a provisioning and maintenance program will be formulated by the time the first units are delivered. The trend in this area is still towards modular replacement with the exception of the large components that are relatively easy to get at. 25X1A5a1 The - people believe they can meet the 30 December delivery deadline providing they don't run into any excessive troubles with these first LO units. Since that probability is very remote, we will probably obtain delivery during the first or second week of January. In spite of this, the manufacturing people, as well as the engineers, seem to have a great deal of confidence in their ability to produce the RR-49 and are not anticipating any problems once the first batch has come-off-the- line. 25X1A9a 4aU tr~.a aitc,: ~~ Excla sir. aiid p9w~~~ra tioi acalii~L. tick Approved For Release 2001/07/28 : CIA-R P78-0282OA001000060003-1 Approved For Release 2001/07/278-02820A001000060003-1 EP 64-330 ""EJECT: Trip Report - RR-49 with Distribution: R&D Subject File Inspection Branch OL/PD R&D Lab OC-OS ESB Monthly (2) EP Chrono -5X1 A9a OC-E/R&D-EP1/bjp (22 December 1964) Approved For Release 2001/07 - Exs:Usded irz;a a~;~mai: j daan~rzdin; and I 25AAa 1
