7. Project Status:
A preproduction engineering model of the RP-49 was
demonstrated. This unit performs as specified except for
its efficiency which is 64% instead of 68%. The single
P.C. board construction was shown and this technique appears
to be a much better layout compared to the Admiral con-
figuration. The parts are now more accessible for manu-
facturing purposes and for maintenance.
An engineering model of the transmitter was also shown;
however, this unit could not be demonstrated because the
solid dielectric capacitors have not been received. These
capacitors are due in on 4 December. This has created a
very tight schedule and - will be hard put to deliver 25X1A5a1
on the target date of 29 December. Some subassemblies have 25X1A5a1
been made or are in progress at the plant and
barring trouble during the test and checkout phase, we may
see some sets before January.
25X1A5a1 Mr. seems to have this program well organized
and under control. I have not seen any evidence, on this or
25X1A5a1 previous trips, of - attempting to cut quality in an
effort to make up for the costs they forgot to put in their
bid.
25X1A5a1 The possibility of - servicing this equipment after
production was discussed briefly. Mr. seemed sure 25X1A5a1
that they would like such a program and said they also had a
facility for general service type work. Anything from repair
work to building one of a kind gadgets could be undertaken.
This field should be explored more fully and will be when
time permits.
