MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, ~ast Division
SUBJECT : Vietnamese Orientation Course
1. OTR Chief Instructor's report on Vietnamese Orientation Course
No. 13 (attached) prompted your query for ideas to spark some new
life into the Vietnamese Orientation Course.
2. On investigation, we found that Course No. 13 was exceptional in
that most of the students were from the support and/or clerical sections.
This, we believe, accounts for the Chief Instructor's remark that the
group "asked few questions, provoked no discussions and exhibited no
strong feelings". We do not believe that this is a trend as Course No. 14
was well-received. We are now closely watching Course No. 15 for
indications.
3. From reading the students' critiques, it is our opinion that
some of the lecturers could beef up their own presentations and instill some
sparks into their audience. The material is there but the public speaking
ability of some is lacking. Certain remedies are being suggested. We are
continuing to keep an eye on the Vietnamese Orientation course and we,
with OTR trainers, are looking for new ideas.
