Release 20048 : CIA-RDP78~9QA000100110(45-9 'aw SPECIAL BULLETIN' O F F I C E O F T R A I N I N G 14 October 1969 To: Training Officers of the Directorate of Intelligence Training Officers of the Directorate of Science and Technology INFORMATION SCIENCE IN SUPPORT OF INTELLIGENCE FUNCTIONS At the request of the Director of Central Intelli- gence, an Information Science Center (ISC) has been established by the Director of DIA. This Center, serving all elements of the intelligence community, will present courses of instruction applying information science techniques to the solution of problems facing that community. The pilot running of its first training course is scheduled 2 February - 27 March 1970. COURSE Through lectures by ISC staff and DESCRIPTION qualified guests, laboratory sessions and case studies, the course will attempt.to provide an information science perspective to intelligence analysts who are engaged in produc- ing functional intelligence. Some of the topics to be covered are: the acquisition and character of infor- mation used by intelligence analysts; nature of communications; the nature, evaluation, and improvement of information systems; and intelligence systems available to intelligence analysts. Some means for evaluating and improving the decision making process will also be presented. FOR Intelligence officers in the mid- career range GS12-13 with a FINAL TOP SECRET security clearance and SI access certified. PRECOURSE Each principal and alternate nominee WORK will be provided a prerequisite study packet early in November. Between 40 and 120 hours of self- study will be required to complete the material prior to reporting to the Center. The packet will include the following items: 1. Text Books a. Introduction to Descriptive Statistics and Correlation. Mc-o oug & Van Atta b. An Introduction to Electronic Computers. Gordon B. Davis c. AProgrammed Introduction to Probability. John R. Dixon d. Executive Decision and Opera- tions Research. Miller & Starr 2. Notes on Theory of Sets, Boolean Algebra, Symbolic Logic, and Modern Math Analysis. REGISTRATION Limited to six principals and six alternates.
