LARGE SCALE SYSTEMS ANALYSIS (LSSA) FOR THE USER
The five day course, "LSSA For The User,"
sponsored by DDSST introduces the main features of
systems theory, systems analysis and operations
research. The course is designed to introduce the
user manager to the systems approach and does not
include instruction in computer hardware and software.
Through examples and workshops the course will
present terminology, current research, and the applica-
tion of advanced methods which have proven useful in the
management of governmental, industrial, social, and
other large systems. LSSA will be related to certain
current and potential future intelligence applications.
Instruction will consist of discussions concerning the
application of systems analysis/operations research
methods to several complex problem areas as well as a
familiarization with techniques such as queuing theory,
linear programming, modeling, and decision theory.
OBJECTIVES To direct thinking about complex, large-
scale systems problems in a manner which
is structured, logical and objective,
which complements existing viewpoints
gained through experience and intuition
and which balances broad generalizations
and overpowering detail.
To examine differing points of view about
complex, large-scale systems problems
developed as a natural result of the
unavoidable specialized nature of many
jobs.

SPECIAL BULLETIN
Approved lG e-26M9/29 : RAT-W6 Ti-0305 0AW 00140029-4
To present justifications and rational means for
recognizing and adapting to the interactions
between human resources and automation technology.
To provide more rigorous definitions of systems
problems in order to create manageable approaches
to difficult problems having no ready-made solutions
and to distinquish between areas where intuitive
judgment must be applied and where quantitative-
computer techniques are possible.
To provide bases for assessing the performance
effectiveness of complex, large-scale systems in
the light of available techniques and technology.
To examine the advantages and disadvantages of
systematic, quantifiable and automated approaches
to problem-solving
