LECTURE
SCIENTIFIC INTELLIGENCE DURING WORLD WAR II
R. V. Jones, Professor of Natural Philosophy at the
University of Aberdeen, Scotland, has been invited by
the Director to speak to Agency personnel on Developments
and Achievements in Scientific Intelligence during World
War II. Professor Jones' presentation is scheduled in
the Auditorium from 1030 to 1200 hours on
Friday, 2 March 1973.
Professor Jones, a pioneer and recognized expert
in the field of scientific intelligence, was the first
scientist appointed to the Intelligence Division of the
British Air Ministry just prior to the outbreak of the
War in 1939. During World War II he served as Deputy
Director and Director of Scientific Intelligence in the
Air Ministry and returned as Director again in 1953-54.
Although much time has passed since the events in
which Professor Jones played a significant part, the
substantial accomplishments made by intelligence during
this critical and dramatic period are well worth re-
telling. A recounting such as this, which highlights
innovation and insight, serves as a useful reminder of
the decisive role good intelligence can play.
Interested Agency employees are encouraged to
attend. Because of expected employee interest,
admittance will be by ticket, which can be obtained from
the Senior Training Officers. One hundred tickets have
been allotted to each of the Directorates.
