or Release 20f~j+07/28 : CIA-RDP78-03090A00010016g(~p~~-8 ADMINISTRATIVE-INTERNAL USE OALY SPECIAL BULLETIN No: 31-74 Date: 4 October 1974 To: All Training Officers of the Agency SYSTEMS DYNAMICS: PRINCTPLES AND APPLICATIONS Systems Dynamics is a methodology developed by Professor Jay Forrester of the Sloan School, MTT. Tt has been used to analyze a spectrum of problems relevant to intelligence interests--management, natural resource, societal, etc. Lectures and workshop sessions illustrating intelligence applications will be used in presenting all facets of the methodology. Topics to be treated in the course will include economic, political, behavioral, management and other appli- cations, together with thorough coverage of the principles and techniques of Systems Dynamics analysis. Toward the end of the course the students, working in teams, will be given direct experience in applying the methodology to a problem of current interest. OBJECTIVES: To develop sufficient understanding and skill through lectures and practice in applying Systems Dynamics principles and techniques so that attendees will be able to: a) Decide confidently when the use of the Systems Dynamics methodology would be beneficial in analytic or management problems, b) Evaluate effectively the potential capabilities and limitations, and other factors of importance, which foreign and domestic organizations are likely to encounter when using the Systems Dynamics methodology, and c) Communicate intelligently with the representatives of organizations who are using the Systems Dynamics methodology to study important problems, e.g., natural resource-trade flow relationships. t'over pZeaseJ or Release 1~1'01fD~~l~g~((~1~~~6~~~-8 . ~:~~ ~.e m ~ ,t ~... No previous technical or scientific education or training is necessary. SECURITY: SECRET security clearance is required, DATE AND TIME: 6 January through 17 January 1974, 0900-1600 hours, two-weeks, full-time. LOCATION: -4600 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia (Chamber of Commerce Building). No transportation will be provided. Detailed instructions on directions to the building, parking and classroom number will be mailed to the students prior to the start of the course. REGISTRATION: Form 73, "Request for Internal Training" must be submitted to OTR/SRS/RG, Room 1036, Chamber of Commerce Building, by 11 November 1974. These requests will be submitted through the Training Officer of each Directorate and through the Cover and Commercial Staff, as personnel of other Intelligence Community agencies will attend this course.
