Dear Andys
31 December 1948
I am writing to discuss briefly the Cruising Technician position,
CAF-9, at your station. As you know, getting this sob up to this
salary level has been a long, hard pull with our Classification deotion.
I have discussed informally the possibility of classifying this job at
P-3 rather than CAP-0. -ithout pushing too tar, I am of the opinion
that too maoh pressure on this one point might throw open to question
whether or not any of our jobs other than the Chief rinser, Assistant
Chief Lngineer and P-3 Radio Engineer Technician should actually be
called Radio engineer and rated as professional. Regardless of how we
may feel about this matter, I am oonvinoed that this is the general
attitude talon not only by our Classification people, but by the Civil
Servioe Commission. Rene, for the time being the job will remain
classified at CAF-9.
I am acsi, ous to Lill these th qualified personnel and
I should like very much to have accept the position at
~isaeda. I know that being a pro ess
o rather than a CAP is much
amore sa tory to our teohnioians. However, I feel first of all
that future Use with us and certainly we can at any time in
the future change him to a professional without any difficulty at all.
Secondly, I believe that the job description is actually what would
count if he should care to look elsewhere for a sob. In brief, I do
not believe that he would Jeopardise his future in any way by aoorpting
this transfer to a CAF-9. I am anxious to have him do so if he can
possibly see fit to do it,f'or two reasons. First, it would enable us
to get our cruising program underway on a fuller scale than has been
possible heretofore and, secondly, it would vaoate a P-4 position,
which would enable you to someone in the group from a CAF-d.
Please discuss this wi at your earliest convenience, try to
point out to him our fee $ the matter and assure him that we
will do everything possible to protect his future with the government.
advise "P his 4, willing to accept a trsjsler and we will initiate
t further delay.
