I have noted with considerable interest your Monthly Progress
Report dated 10 Dsoembsr 1948. It is an excellent report and serves
as a reminder to me of the thoroughly efficient job you have done
since assuming responsibility for your station.
Official memoranda will orthooming outlining my thinkirgr, 25X1
here on some of your problems. a requested two additional vehicles
for Cyprus transportation. We feel here, however, that one additional
station wagon would meet his needs if he had some of your rather
dilapidated transportation for standby veht&ales. We plan, therefore,
to requisition one now station wagon and transfer your two best sedans
to Cyprus at some future date.
I doubt seriously that the Cypriot authorities will give permission
for your two White Russians and one Albanian to enter. I hope that
something can be worked out* however, we at insure that the U. 8.
Government does not become responsible for these people.
It is considerable relief to we this morning to learn that you are
not in the Cairo hoosegorr as a result of your recent suns in connection
with an indemnity claim. I dispatched you two massages on this subject
im:aediately upon receipt of your query and a written memorandum, is on route.
I am sure that you have taken this into consideration, but where it is at
all possible you should arrange to give sufficient notice so that this
sort of thing will not happen. The agency feels that under the law there
may be some payment due the individual with whom you have had tnis recent
difficulty, and we will give your administrative request prompt considera-
tion upon receipt here.
