Approved For Release 2008/12/10: CIA-RDP78-03097A000200040123-5 Chief, Okinawa Bureau Chief, FBIB Radar Interference 3 Deoeumber 1948 1. Reference is made to your memorandum dated 27 October 1948, subjects Meetings with iisjor Hammond, S-3, 87th AAA and Lt. F. L. Webster, Air Defense Officer, lot A.D. 2. For your information the problem of radar interference was covered in the initial survey of the Okinawa site by the FBIB Survey Fusty and the following facts were determineds a. Radar frequency is high and will not interfere with reception* be "Audio huh" on the carrier signal may cause slight difficulty during tiring periods; however, these will be of short duration and occur infrequently. o. Local oo:amRmioation frequencies are in the range 2 to 6 megacycles where there will be few programs to intercept. 3. As a matter of policy FBI'8 should not make serious objection to military activities such as firing practice causing short periods of interference. Our attitude should be one of cooperation and if local oo=msnications frequencies are causing interference we should report the condition and work with the proper military authorities in choosing frequencies that do not interfere. 4. beery effort should be made to show our appreciation of the fins attitude and willingness to cooperate as evidenced by the ex- pressed desire of these two military units to avoid interference with FBI8 operations.
