Offioial Status of P'BI8 and American Personnel Thereof in Cyprus
1. 1soeipt of your memorandum dated 20 October 1948, subject as above,
is acknowledged.
2. The official status of ?BIB and American personnel employed by PSIS
on the Island of Cyprus has been planed in the hands of the General Counselg,
CIA. Speoitio reference has been made to the problems presented in your
memorandum and the details of these problems are at present under consideration.
You will be advised as soon as a determination has been reached.
3. The possibility of providing diplomatic status for P8I8 personnel
serving on the Island of Cyprus and in London will be explored with a view
to eliaiaatin all local restrictions for P818 personnel. This exploration
will unquestionably take some time. In the meantime it is suggested that you
meet these looal problems to the best of your ability.
