1. In compliance with memorandum to Chief, FSIB, from the
Deputy Assistant Director for Operations, dated 28 June 1948, the
F}3IB monthly progress report is submitted for the month ending
30 aepteaber 1948.
2. A special report "Soviet Scientific Exceditions--Are&,
Scope and Progress" was prepared in response
3. Processing and special distribution of monitored broadcast
items to selected Government agencies totaled 2,068 during the month.
4. During the past month a pool was established in the basement
of Briggs School Building for the training of linguistic personnel
who, upon obtaining security clearance, will be employed as monitors.
5. At the request of the Department of State, a special daily
rounuup of broadcasts pertaining to the U. N. General Assembly meeting
it Pn.ris is being prepared by the FBIS London Bureau and forwarded to
the United ;hates delegates in Parts.
