STAT
I enclose some material sent byl which
you may wish to have Security look at. For some reason I
received a complete duplicate set of the same material. I
did not acknowledge.
Dear Jack:
STAT
As I mentioned to you over the phone I am in the process
of finishing my book on the Russian intelligence service. With
the dual motive of making it a better and more interesting book
than Barron's KGB and to provide an incentive for its publication
abroad, I am doing a chapter or section on each major country
of the world where there has been any Russian intelligence or
political warfare activity since 1918. What I would like to
have in the book is a roster of all Soviet personnel who were
known to operate in each country, and of all indigenous
personnel who were identified as Russian agents.
It occurred to me that the Agency might know of some
language specialists (retired or unemployed) who might be
interested in working on an hourly basis in the Library of
Congress researching from national newspapers and/or periodicals.
This would be out of my pocket so it is not a sizable amount
that is involved. I will provide some basic leads and material
to work from so it will not be a case of operating from scratch.
Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated.
I imagine you are now hip-deep in Bush briefings, but
maybe now the hearings are over the Congress will leave you
alone and fight among themselves.
Rita joins me with love to you, Fran and the girls. Sic
