Approved For Release 2D05/11/21 : CIA-RDP78-03097A002400030076-2 2 6 MAR 1976 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Research and Development SUBJECT : Microprocessor R&D Dori recent briefing on micro rocessors given by I Iof your staff to Projects Officer on the FBIS Executive an ann ng a f, the possible applications of microprocessor technology to FBIS needs were discussed. STAT One possible application that surfaced was the potential development of a small Teletype message header go.neratox for FBIS field bureau Teletype messages. These messages are sent to a great variety of consumers and follow a very strict format that must be letter-perfect, otherwise the message-._ is rejected by the DCA AUTODIN communications switching facilities. A message header generator would insure that proper headings are inserted and formatted to follow the procedures set forth by DCA. Dave thought that this type of requirement might well fit into the microprocessor research that he is currently undertaking. I therefore request that ORD pursue the possible development of a Teletype message header generator that will interface with an ASR model 28 Teletype machine.
