Dear Bob:
January 1952
I am writing this and sending an extra coir so that I can
explain and be able to have you explain to
and anybody else you please the procedure we are using on
9=IL2L.R.19gADAa.
The proposal came throne" from today and I think has
been executed satisfactorily. At least we are sending it back
to him, we hope, in proper form. This job is being handled
through
with offices a the
above address. I appear in this corporation as the master of
any one of a group of vessels and to handle such research and
development as the corporation may see fit to carry on.
has sent tc
and t letters authorizing them to proceed
on a project described to them by Work has
proceeded at a rapid rate both day and night and one of these
days a report will come through to give you an illustration
of some of the trials and tribulations this kind of a job
incurs, and particularly if it must be done in a hurry. Some
of it makes interesting reading.
I agreed with was in his office at the
time, that the job be best handled on a fixed price contract
basis, but there was implied by all parties an acknowledgment
that this was a sort of gentlemen's agreement and there would
be no intention to soak you people if the job could be done
for less money. I wanted to clarify, before we got into even
a possibility of a dispute, the procedure which we will use
for charges. I am attaching a list of categories and their
rates and when the job is done will send you a piece of paper
with the number of hours spent for men in each of these
categories. The numbers and classification are current in
this area and are used by such firms as Arthur D. Little,
etc., for projects of this type.

I think we can now say from a technical point of view that we
have arrived at and tested a satisfactory unit so that we at
least will know the intensities involved. We are now working
on procedures for getting the gadget to blink. It is my
feeling that several more days and perhaps one more night
test should permit us to say that we have a finished model,
and I feel very sure that this can be done by the time Paul
gets up here next. If possible, when he does came up I should
like to have him be able to spend part of an evening at least,
weather permitting, actually checking out the device himself.
I should like, further, to have you people make up your minds
just exactly how you wish the quantity order to be handled;
that is, how many, by when, how they are to be packed, the
question of instruction. In other words, just what kind of
a package will you expect for eaCh unit or group of units?
The sooner we have this information the more sure you are ,
going to be of getting them when you wish them. We will be
able to make some recommendations on some of these points
ourselves.
I hope you don't mind my putting this all down in one place.
I am getting so that already my hat has gotten so many facets
that I keep wondering which way I should turn it, and the
only way I know to keep my conscience clear is to be explicit
aS soon as something is definite. I hope to see Paul some
time this next week.
Kindest regards to yourself and all others.
WSB/kvs
Enclosure
Sincerely,
P.S. One of your blooming waikie-talkies did not work.
