1. EE-1 has
an urgent need for
beacon. In accord-

EE-1 and the Engineer-

ing Section of Research & Development on this subject, it is requested
that R&D investigate, test, and produce a suitable beacon for use by a
ground reception committee in pinpointing or marking a drop zone for
parachute operations. This beacon should incorporate some sort of
infra red or other technique necessary for covert operation but visible
to an aircraft flying up to 10,000 feet and five miles from the target.
2. In order to meet our spring operations requirements it is
reauested that this beacon be developed before 1 February 1952.

1. EE-1 has an urgent need for beacon. In accord-
ance with recent discussions betLeen EF-1 and the Lngineer-
ing Section of Research & Developmsn on his sUbject0 it is requested
that R&D investigate, test, and produce a suitable. beacon for use by a
