SUBJECT : Initiation of Ad Hoc Project, Collapsible

1. It is requested, in compliance with a written requirement
from PD, that an ad hoc project number be assigned and file
established on the subject project.
2. The work to be completed under this project is the
fabrication of a collapsible barrel incorporating a 40" focal
length Astro lens suitable for use with an Exacta VX camera or
Deice; III F with reflex housing. This project has been let to
for a contract price of $2,592.00. A copy
of the performance specifications is herein attached.

TASK III
SPECIFICATION OF F1RFORMANCE FOR TELEPHOTO LENS
The Contractor shall select a 40" focal length Astro lens
and design and construct a lens barrel to form a Telephoto lens which
shall have the following properties:
1. A focal length of 40 inches.
2. A lens resolution of at least 85 lines/m.m. when the
lens is wide open.
3. An aperture of approximately f - 5.6
4. A collapsible barrel with a maxium collapsed length
Of 15 inches and a maximum diameter of 7 j inches.
5. A system for tripod mounting using a single tripod and a
two tripod support. (This will require three tripod
sockets).
A camera mounting to permit attachment of the lens to a
bayonet type Exacta camera or a Leica with reflex
housing.
7. A focusing system permitting sharp images from 500 feet
to infinity.
8. A lens shade to shield from extraneous light.
9. Barrel is to be constructed out of a tough, lightweight
aluminum alloy and with a flat black finish.
