SUBJECT: RS-13 Equipments

1. As a result of the operational tests recently conducted with the two
modified RS-13 transmitters, it is requested that all RS-13 transmitters
presently on hand at Headquarters or in the field be modified to incorporate
the following:
a. The output circuit of all transmitters to be a pi or modified pi,
and this circuit be equipped with an RF voltmeter connected
across the output for accurate determination of correct loading.
No tuning indication, other than this RF voltmeter, is required
for tuning of the final amplifier.
b. An inductance tuning control similar to that employed in the
modified RS-13 transmitter be used in the pi network, but the
total rotation of this tuning control be not more than three turns.
c. The requirement for reduced power output while tuning be eliminated.
d. The present TUNE position of the transmitter function switch be
changed to a KEY position. With the function switch in this
position, the hand key to be used for keying A-2 emission.

2. The previously requested provision for off-on keying and single antenna
operation must also be included in these modified RS-13 sets.
3. It is requested that the first two modi S-13 transmitters which
are received from the contractor be forwarded to to replace the two 50X1
unmodified RS-13 transmitters presently on hand in that area. The two unmodified
' RS-13 transmitters should then be returned by for forwarding to the 50X1
contractor for modification.
4. It is requested that the nomenclature RS-13A be applied to the equip-
ments which are to be modified by the contractor, and that the nomenclature
RS-13B be applied to the forty new RS-13 equipments for which OC-E is presently
negotiating with a West Coast firm.
