SUBJECT: RS-13 Modifications
1. In a meeting held 24 January between representatives of
the Engineering Division and this Division) the deficiencies of
the present RS-13 equipment were discussed. As a result of these
discussions, it was decided that the following modifications of
this equipment are in order:
a. Change antenna loading to a system similar to that
employed in the RS-6.
b. Improve the action of the function switch.
c. Provide a hold-down for the 1614 final tube.
d. Provide single antenna operation.
e. Improve the operation of, or replace, the present
hand key jack.
f. Change the transmitter circuitry to provide for A-1
mode of operation.
2. It is requested that the Engineering Division undertake
whatever action is required to have the above modifications made
in the RS-13 sets which are presently on hand. As you know, two
of these sets are committed to an operation which is scheduled to
be mounted as early as April. It will therefore be necessary that
at least two of these sets be made available to this Division
prior to 1 April and preferably in time to permit ample testing of
the equipment before issuing it for the operation.
