14 Now that the RS-13 equipment has been tested, accepted,
and is being made available for issue, the question of a sterility
code assignment lifie haan This point has been discussed at
some length by oc4 With the Procurement Division of
the Office of Logistics, and has resulted, among other things, in
the issue of a memorandum byl explaining in some de-
tail the meaning of the sterility code.
2. The RS-13 was procured under an arrangement which is not
covered by the concept of this code, in that while the association
with this Agency is classified, overt employees of this Agency
dealt directly with representatives of the contracting firs. Further,
the Procurement Division of the Office of Logistics states that in
cases where the sterility code is applicable, except for the assign-
ment of IISC-0,* the procurement of the material is accomplished
through a Rout-out.* Therefore, it is not possible under the circus".
stances to assign any sterility code classification to the R8?13.
1. It must be pointed out, however, that while the R243 is
unclassified, it is intended primarily for agent operation and must,
therefore, be handled, Shipped, stored, and used in the manner ao-
corded any other piece of agent equipment, whether that other piece
of equipment is Agency sterile or not.
