SUBJECT: Trip Report - Signal Actuate Device, 00-3
DATE: 29 September 1959 50X1
1. On 24 September 1959, the writer accompanied
C-SPS/EA, visited the
The purpose of this visit was to monitor the progress on
this task. The progress was discussed with the following cognizant
personnel:
- Director of Micronics
50X1
50X1

bUAl
50X1
- Project Engineer 50X1
2. The subject task provides for the fabrication of 15 CU-3
signal actuate devices. Initial development of the 00-3 was accomplished
under, Task Order C. The CU-3 is a miniature device which can be 50X1
used with the time event marker, or independently. Upon signal presence
at the input of this device a bi-stable multivibrator actuates a relay
to turn on a recorder and transfer the signal to the recorder input. At
the end of a preset recording period of 16 2, or 5 minutes, the signal
actuate device will interrogate the time event marker and transfer the
time event marker output to the recorder input. Each of these equipments
perform automatica)ly what is now a manual operation with agent type
collection systems. It is intended that these units be used in automatic
collection systems such as the GS-11.
(-24 3. The present status of this project is:
a. All of the engineering necessary to improve the unit
resulting from our evaluation of two engineering models
has been completed.
b. All parts procurement with the exception of printed
circuit boards has been completed.
c. The printed circuits boards are scheduled for delivery
by the end of this month.
d. Projected delivery schedule has been set up, one unit
by 8 October 1959 and three units per month thereafter..

4. The contractor requested that the procedure for the temperature
environmental testing be decided on at this meeting since the Government
furnished electronic assembly does not meet the low and high temperature
specifications required of their portion of the CU-3. Since it is planned
that the Government furnished electronic assembly will eventually be
replaced with the unit that does meet the overall temperature specifications,
the contractor was instructed to conduct these tests only on their portion
of the unit. In addition to this item, the nomenclature of the front panel
controls was decided. The contractor requested an assignment of serial
numbers for these 15 units. The contractor was informed that the serial
numbers would be provided as soon as possible.
