2. The subject task provides for the fabrication of fifteen 1N-7 time
event markers (TEM) and the development of one ruggedized IN-7 prototype (TEM-A).
Initial development of the IN-7 was accomplished under RD-76, T.O. C. The TEM
and the TM-A are miniature time code generators controlled by the vetch move-
ment. In the TEM the watch is driven by a manual wind spring which when fully
wound will provide operation for a 60-day period; in the TEM-A the watch is driven
by an electrically operated solenoid which pulses the vatehvinding mechanism
once per minute. In this manner operation of the unit will continue for a
period determined by the life of the external. battery source. When TEN or
TEM-A is aectrically interrogated, a series of pulses is ;resented at the out-
put terminal. This is a, binary coded time group representing the number of
elapsed minutes from the time of activation. The TM and. TM-Al/in be used
with ELINT systems to denote the time that sample signals are recorded.
3. The ruggedized time event marker failed during acceptance tests and had
to be returned to the contractor for further volt. During this visit the con-
tractor tried to determine the cause for failure in this unit. Preliminary
indications are that either the watch module or the watch solenoid winding
mechanism failed. The contractor was requested to determine the cause for fail-
ure and recommend what corrective action should be taken. Rinds have been com-
pletely expended on this task and the contractor was instructed by the writer
that once it has been determined what has to be done a proposal should be sub-
mitted for a time extension and additional funding to complete this task. In
addition to the re-work, the contractor was requestel to provide facilities for
Agency evaluation of the unit. OC.ZPS/FAvill provide amen to monitor this
evaluation.
