1. After a careful review of the present miniature/recorder
situation including all equipment known to be under development
by this Agency and certain components of the Department of Defense,
it has been found necessary to undertake an independent recorder
development pro~am. This pro~am is to develop a miniature recorder
2. For planning purposes, it is anticipated that approximately
250 recorders may be involved in eventual stock procurement of this
item. During the R&D phase, however, a minimum of 25 recorders
will be necess~acry for thorough field evaluation by all areas.
3. Funds"~a,re available for this development program from the
Supplemental Programs Division 1957 Operating Budget. You are
requested, therefore, to undertake this program and advise this
Division as soon as possible as to the amount of funding this
program will require.
~+. The attachment describes the general operating characteris-
tics of the desired recorder and should serve as a general guide on
which to base contractor's discussions and~or negotiations.
