PROGRESS REPORT

Development of the ET-2 (Phase II) -Task 7, Pinto
(Project 3027
PERIOD: 1 February 1955 to 1 klay 1955
OBJECTIVE
The aim of this task is the production of three improved models,
design information, and complete manufacturing drawings and specifications for
a miniaturized electromechanical transmitter known as the ET-2.
PROGRESS
Progress during the last report period fell somewhat behind schedule,
The main delay was caused by the amount of time required to design and fabricate
a special printed circuit commutator, In general, the design of the ET-2 has
been completed and the layout of the final unit is being made.
Tane Steuoina Mechanism -During this period, a test model of the tape
handling mechanism was made, and it proved to be very satisfactory. The new
magnetic clutch performs very well, The final model of the tape stepping
mechanism will differ slightly from this test model in that it will incorporate
a number of different component parts, such as gears and dogs, made of nylon.
Use of nylon components will enhance the quietness of the equipment,
Writiga Head - The previous writing problems have been overcome by
using a standard writing head with a special printed circuit commutator, Tests
have proved this system very satisfactory. No further design problems are fore-
seen on this part of the equipment,
Electronic Circuitry - In general, the electronic design of the ET-2
is complete and working satisfactorily, A slight modification will be necessary
to incorporate the frequency-shift keying unit (FS-1), It is felt however, that
this modification will not cause any added design problems.
It is planned to complete the drafting and fabrication of this unit
and start the final testing during the next period,
