Subject: Potential Labor Dispute
(RD)-.SG-578
In accordance with the terms of subject contract, we wish to advise
of a potential labor dispute at our St. Paul, Minnesota facilities.
The dispute arises out of joint negotiations with District bodge 77
of the International Association of Machinists, American Federation of Labor and
General Drivers Union, Kcal 120, American Federation of Labor for a contract
for the period 1 June 1955 to 1 June 1956, There are 385 people in the bargaining
unit. Although many points have been successfully negotiated, there remain same
points on which agreement has not been reached. As a result, the unions have
filed with the State of Minnesota Labor Conciliator a Notice of Dispute and
Intent to Strike dated 24 May 1955. The first meeting in conciliation will be
held June 2, 1955. The Minnesota Labor Relations Act provides for a ten day
waiting period from the date the notice is filed before strike action can oomarence.
The circumstances as outlined above indicate that a work stoppage is
possible. This company wishes to fulfill its obligation of notifying of a potential
labor dispute and takes this manner of conveying the information to the contract
sponsor. You will be advised of any further significant developments which will
alter the status of this dispute.
