d. Antenna Block Switch: Worked well but was a little
difficult to get to when switching from tune to transmit.
e. C 9 and L 5. These controls are listed together
due to their effect on each other. Most of the variations
from normal were observed at the higher frequencies. The
hand effect when tuning C 9 was such that when the hand was
removed the antenna loading lamp increased in brilliance
appreciably. It was sometimes difficult to get a perceptible
indication of loading from the load lamp. On two occasions
loading could only be distinguished when L 5 was on the
proper impedance match and could not be detected at all on
the setting of L 5. It was also noted particularly at the
higher frequencies that as inductance was switched out of
the circuit capacity from C 9 had to be added. This effect
was noted to the extent that the reference markings on C 9
could be used in general sense only.
f. General. The antenna wire broke and was repaired.
An external key was used during the tests and worked quite
well. A pair of Trimm headphones were used and worked much
better than the telex earpiece provided.**
RECOMMEIDATIONS: The only recommendations that can be made are
minor in nature. First: A slightly tighter BFO sleeve is desirable.
Second: A lower wattage lamp for use in load indicating at the
higher frequencies should be provided as an accessory. Third: The
antenna wire from the adaptor plug should be heavier gauge. Finally,
for the test it was necessary to make up a special adaptor plug
for the receiver and the TA-1. Since the exact type receiver the
unit will be used with operationally is not known., it would not be
practical at this time to recommend as a standard adaptor plug any
other then the one originally furnished with the equipment.
CONCLUSIONS: The equipment worked very well and little difficulty
was encountered in setting up or tuning the equipment.
