The TSS interest appears to center around a small type of leaflet rocket which would avoid the objections of expense and fragmentation of metal experienced with the larger types. A rocket of the characteristics outlined in paragraph 6.b. would appear to be minimum. A payload of 11 oz. would be equivalent to 8,030 total square inches of paper (on the basis of 17x22/16). This would be equivalent to 415 leaflets of a 4x5 size-- or about 2 1/2 cents delivery cost per leaflet on the ground, at their estimate of $10 per rocket. It would appear proWthat a much more favorable cost ratio could be expected from rockets of a somewhat larger size. However, there might well be circumstances in which the proposed type of small rocket would be desirable in the field. 2. The following notes reflect experience with rockets in the EE area.
